(Sorry for the double email. Somehow the artwork went missing!)
You’ve heard me talk about it for months, and I’m thrilled to announce that yesterday The Unspeakeasy online community officially launched!
The Unspeakeasy is where free-thinking, heterodox-minded women come together for candid, intelligent, Nuanced (bien sur) conversations about everything from arts and culture to science and medicine to the new battles over gender, race, free speech, sexual politics and, well . . . all the stuff we like to talk about around here. We offer book clubs, a professional directory, opportunities to organize local, in-person meetups, live streams, and more. Basically, it’s like a mini-Facebook without all the annoying people.
Yes, this is for women only, and yes, at least half of you seeing this post are men, or at least appear that way. But, bellyache not! We are busy planning in-person events that include everyone. We’ll probably start out small, for instance an evening meetup at a bar or restaurant that includes some kind of interview or facilitated discussion on stage. (In fact, I’m hoping to figure something out for May 7 ahead of our retreat in Minneapolis.) Down the road, anything’s possible!
In the meantime, ladies, come on in! Also, I’d love if anyone and everyone helped spread the word via our Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages. That’s where you’ll find our awesome Prohibition-era/culture war hybrid memes, like the ones above and below. Stay tuned for a caption contest!
‘Ladies’ and ‘gentlemen.’
Are you suggesting there’s a *difference* (perhaps even biological!) between men and women????!😂😬
No point paying the Riverman to sit on the shore...
